DATE/TIME: The FHCCI’s 9th Annual Fair Housing Conference will be held on Thursday, April 8, 2021 from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. This year’s conference theme is Acknowledging Our History for the Future of Fair Housing. The conference will begin promptly at 9:00 AM and is a VIRTUAL event.
KEYNOTE SPEAKER: We are pleased to welcome Dr. Andre M. Perry as our 2021 Conference Keynote! Dr. Perry is a senior fellow in the Metropolitan Policy Program at Brookings, a scholar-in-residence at American University, and a columnist for the Hechinger Report. He is the author of the book Know Your Price: Valuing Black Lives and Property in America’s Black Cities, which is currently available wherever books are sold. A nationally known and respected commentator on race, structural inequality, and education, Dr. Perry is a regular contributor to MSNBC and has been published by The New York Times, The Nation, The Washington Post, TheRoot.com and CNN.com. Dr. Perry’s scholarship has been featured on HBO, ABC, CNN, PBS, National Public Radio, NBC, and in the Wall Street Journal. His research focuses on race and structural inequality, education, and economic inclusion. Perry’s recent scholarship at Brookings has analyzed Black-majority cities and institutions in America, focusing on valuable assets worthy of increased investment.
Dr. Perry’s academic writings have concentrated on race, structural inequality, and urban schools. Perry co-authored the Brookings Institution report “The Devaluation of Assets in Black Neighborhoods” and has presented its findings across the country, including to the U.S. House Financial Services Committee. For the tenth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, Perry co-authored “School by School: The Transformation of New Orleans Public Education” in Resilience and Opportunity: Lessons from the U.S. Gulf Coast after Katrina and Rita, published by Brookings Institution Press. Perry also co-authored “The Transformation of New Orleans Public Schools: Addressing System-Level Problems Without a System,” published by the Data Center of New Orleans. He also co-authored a chapter in Between Public and Private: Politics, Governance, and the New Portfolio Models for Urban School Reform published by Harvard Education Press. Along with the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, Perry co-authored the report “Place Matters for Health in Orleans Parish: Ensuring Opportunities for Good Health for All.”
AGENDA: This year’s conference will also feature FIFTEEN workshop options for attendees to choose from based on rental, sales, and lending fair housing topics. Workshops will cover the following topic areas:

- Fair Housing Disability Case Law Update
- National Origin Based Housing Discrimination
- Implicit Bias Training
- Gender Discrimination in Housing
- Housing Discrimination and Families with Children
- 5 Workshops on the History of Systemic Housing Policies and/or Racism

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS: The FHCCI has received approval for continuing education for attorneys. Info below:
- Legal Credits: 6.3 Legal Credits APPROVED (for Indiana attorneys – if you are from out of state, check with your Commission for reciprocity options)
After your conference attendance, you must complete the FHCCI CLE form and return it to the FHCCI on or by April 12, 2021. Without this form, we cannot submit your name to the accrediting agency. The form is available to registered attendees in the conference platform’s “Continuing Education” tab.
PLEASE follow the directions within the conference platform to ensure you receive your credits. Again, you must complete your evaluations and submit the FHCCI form on or by April 12, 2021 for the FHCCI to process your credits.
CONFERENCE COST: The registration cost for this all-day event is only $40/person if registered on or by February 28, 2021. After this date, the cost will be $55/person. We are unable to provide refunds after March 31, 2021.
REGISTRATION: To register for the conference, click here. Registration is required. Space is limited. Your registration is not considered complete until payment is received.
- Those who want to send checks instead of an online payment, should register online, choose the check option, and mail payment to the FHCCI. Please note our mailing address of 445 N. Pennsylvania Street, Suite 811, Indianapolis, IN 46204. Checks must be received on or by 3/31/21.
- If you have any problems in completing your registration or need an alternative option, please contact Brady at the FHCCI.

SCHOLARSHIPS: The FHCCI has a limited number of scholarships to waive the conference registration cost. These scholarships are available to interested students and persons of low incomes. Contact Amy at the FHCCI for more info.
