Fall Seminar 2026 (Indianapolis)
Preserving the American Dream: Private Equity’s Fair Housing Implications

A conversation with award-winning journalist Gretchen Morgenson about the fair housing impact of private equity in Hoosiers’ daily lives.
Join us for a presentation by Gretchen Morgenson, author of “These Are the Plunderers: How Private Equity Runs—and Wrecks—America“, as she sheds light on how private equity firms are affecting our housing markets and other parts of our daily lives, impacting fair housing outcomes.
After Ms. Morgenson sets the stage, the FHCCI will share a fair housing analysis of the initiatives being implemented to attempt to address the fair housing barriers caused by private equity – namely through the “Stopping Wall Street from Competing with Main Street Homebuyers” Executive Order and the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act. Discussion will also review ordinances by the cities of Carmel and Fishers, Indiana which have attempted to challenge private equity single-family home purchasing and the changes that may be made by homeowner associations to combat investor home purchasing under new Indiana state law. The program will continue with a panel discussion of local experts on how to address the fair housing impact these entities have in fair housing access for Hoosier families. After an audience Q&A, the program will close with an opportunity for guests to get their books signed by the author. The first 100 attendees on-site will receive a free copy of Ms. Morgenson’s book.
