The Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana and Indiana Disability Rights are sponsoring a Fair Housing Legal Seminar on Friday, August 19, 2016 in Indianapolis from 9:00 AM-4:00 PM. This legal seminar is designed to give a detailed overview of the federal Fair Housing Act, its regulations, and case law of interest. At this seminar, attendees will learn about fair housing concepts, protected classes, covered transactions, reasonable accommodations and modifications, theories of proof, damages and other relief, current litigation and trends, key HUD regulations, and the role of HUD and DOJ.

Robert G. Schwemm is the Ashland-Spears Distinguished Research Professor and William L. Matthews, Jr. Professor of Law at the University of Kentucky College of Law. Prior to becoming a law professor, Professor Schwemm practiced with Sidley & Austin in Washington, D.C., and then served as chief trial counsel for the Leadership Council for Metropolitan Open Communities in Chicago, Illinois. He is a graduate of Amherst College and the Harvard Law School. Professor Schwemm teaches civil procedure, constitutional law, and civil rights.

His publications include a treatise entitled Housing Discrimination: Law and Litigation and numerous articles in leading law reviews throughout the country. His litigation experience includes three cases before the U.S. Supreme Court. Prof. Schwemm also served as Acting Dean of the College of Law in 1998-99.

Note: This training is designed for those interested in fair housing and in representing plaintiffs in fair housing litigation. If you are seeking information in how to defend claims in fair housing litigation, this seminar may will not meet those requirements.

Continuing Education: Continuing Legal Education Credits (5.0 credits) have been received through the Indiana Commission for Continuing Legal Education (see verification letter).

Cost: The registration fee for this all day training is only $35! Payments must be received in advance of the training. No refunds will be given for cancellations on or after August 12, 2016.

Parking: Is on your own.

Meals: A continental breakfast will be provided. Lunch will be on your own. There is a snack shop in the Government Center for snacks.
