Central Indiana Accessibility Partnership Project
The Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana (FHCCI) is pleased to announce current projects to increase housing accessibility! For these projects, the FHCCI is excited to partner with Rebuilding Together Indianapolis, Back Home in Indiana Alliance, Servants at Work, CICOA, Easter Seals Crossroads, and accessABILITY.
2013 Indianapolis CDBG “Increasing Accessibility Through Homeowner Repair” Project: The FHCCI and its partners were pleased to be awarded $123,000 in CDBG funds to increase accessibility through home modifications for Marion County residents covered under the CDBG project area. This project is expected to begin in January, 2013 and run through December, 2013. It applies to homeowners only. To be considered for the Indy CDBG Project, the applicant must:
- Meet the definition of disability under the federal Fair Housing Act or be a person 55 years and older with conditions of aging
- Be living on a low to moderate income according to HUD guidelines in Marion County (residents of Marion County exempted cities of Beech Grove, Lawrence and Speedway are currently not eligible for consideration under this project)
- Be current with real estate taxes or have an agreement for payment of all delinquent real estate taxes if you own your home
Home accessibility modifications could include items such as hand rails, grab bars, widening of doors, roll-in showers, ramps, or other modifications which increase accessibility. Those applications accepted for the project will be provided their needed accessibility modifications at NO COST to the homeowner.
Application: If you know of someone who may benefit from this program, please have them complete an application or complete an application on their behalf as soon as possible. An application (which includes more information on eligibility) may be downloaded: English Spanish

Previous projects:
2012 National Fair Housing Alliance (NFHA) Funding: In 2012, the FHCCI was fortunate to be awarded $100,000 in private funds from the National Fair Housing Alliance to assist persons with disabilities and persons 55 years and older with conditions of aging in making needed changes to their homes or rental units for increased accessibility. These changes will assist the homeowners and/or renters in becoming more independent and allow them the ability to enjoy their housing more fully while aging in place. The Project launched on April 28, 2012 as part of Rebuilding Together Indianapolis’ Game Day 2012 Event. You can view some photos from the event at the FHCCI’s Facebook page. Partners anticipate modifying approximately 20 homes or rental units in 2012 with these funds. The Project will conclude on December 31, 2012. To have been considered for the NFHA Project, the applicant must:
- Meet the definition of disability under the federal Fair Housing Act or be a person 55 years and older with conditions of aging
- Be living on a low to moderate income according to HUD guidelines in central Indiana (counties of Boone, Hamilton, Hendricks, Johnson, and Marion)
- Be current with real estate taxes or have an agreement for payment of all delinquent real estate taxes if you own your home
- Be current with all rent if you rent your home or apartment
